Young Workers Education Event – Cardiff ’24

On Friday 27th September 2024, the CWU Young Workers Education Event starts in Cardiff running through to Sunday 29th September.

To start the event, on Friday 27th “Industrial Day” there will be Panels held for multiple areas the CWU operates in starting with T&FS followed by Postal & ending with Tech/Newly Organised Members with a focus on workplace matters and giving a chance for Young Workers to talk with Officers from across the union on how they’re working for change on the workforces behalf. After the panels are over, there will be a film screening of “Pride – 2014” so attendees can enjoy a quiet & relaxing evening while socialising at the conference centre.

On Saturday 28th “Education & Debate Day”, Guest speakers will be attending from all over the UK to talk at the event to speak to attendees about multiple subjects ranging from the Modern Relevance of the Miners Strike to Opposing Racism & the Far Right. This will give young workers the chance to talk to CWU’s Regional Secretary for Wales & Cymru TUC’s Young Workers Officer as well as Members from Trademark Belfast & Strathclyde University. At night, the Social Event has been organised by the Young Workers in the Wales Region (Which has also been kindly sponsored by CWU Wales & Local Branches) at Battle Bar – Cardiff, this will allow attendees to let there hair down and socialise with other young workers from other areas.

The Final day, Sunday 29th “Training & Skills Day”, will be centred around a mock conference where delegates from CWU will work together in teams to produce motions, argue for & against positions on issues and decide where they sit on emergency issues in a parody situation. While it will be a relaxed atmosphere, it will allow young workers an insight into how a conference works & learn debate and writing skills around debates.

The invitation to attend is open to all CWU Young Workers from around the country and is an ideal first event for Young Workers & New Members within the CWU!
